AN inquiry into an appeal against South Somerset Council’s refusal of a David Wilson Homes planning application at Crimchard starts tomorrow (August 28) at 10am.

The company lodged the appeal after its application to build 110 houses on farmland at Crimchard was rejected by the Area West Planning Committee last August.

The inquiry will last two days at the Guildhall, Chard.

Mactaggart & Mickel, who applied to build 350 houses plus land for Chard Town Football Club at the adjoining Mount Hindrance site also had their application rejected.

Their appeal inquiry was held in May, but it will re-open in the first week of September following new evidence about the council’s future supply of land for housing development.

As that evidence is relevant to both appeals the Housing Land Supply evidence will be presented and discussed in the second week in respect of both appeals.

The council received over 600 letters of objection to the Mactaggart & Mickel application and 400 letters of objection to the David Wilson Homes application.

The Mount Hindrance Action Group also handed in a petition signed by over 1,200 residents asking planners to reject any application from developers whose proposals run counter to the South Somerset Local Plan and the CRS.

Alan Quantrell, of the MHAG, said: “We need to follow this up by getting as many people as possible to attend these inquiries to demonstrate that we’re all still very serious in our opposition.

“If these proposals were allowed to go forward they would overturn all the hard work undertaken in developing the Chard Regeneration Scheme.”
