Wow! What a weekend! Did you watch the Coronation? We chose to stay at home as we had both been poorly in the days before and did not want to pass on our bugs!

We watched the Coronation on the telly for most of the day. A fascinating day in history.

Seeing the thousands of people lining the route, smiling, making friends with strangers, flying flags, soaking up the atmosphere!

Waiting for hours to catch a glimpse of the new King and Queen as they passed by in the royal carriage.

A friend of mine caught an amazing photo of Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis smiling from their coach too.

All these people were right there, up close to everything and probably a day they will never forget!

It was fantastic to see all the Armed Forces personnel too.

They performed a spectacular ceremonial role. More than 9,000 members of the UK Armed Forces were deployed in ceremonial and supporting roles for the coronation.

Around 7,000 personnel were on ceremonial duties which included: More than 1,000 personnel who lined the streets; Around 200 personnel participating in the King's Procession to Westminster Abbey; Around 4,000 personnel participating in the Coronation Procession from Westminster Abbey.

Of these personnel: More than 900 were from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. Close to 4,000 were from the British Army and more than 900 were from the Royal Air Force.

19 military bands played, separated by distance over a procession group length of more than a mile!

As a very proud Director of Somerset Armed Forces Day it filled me with pride.

Everyone is welcome in Vivary Park on Saturday, July 1 to experience some amazing military sights and sounds.

Parachute displays, bomber fly pasts and the red arrows too! Check out www.somersetarmedforcesday.com for further details.

All across our beautiful county, communities gathered to celebrate the Coronation.

There were lots of organised events, places to watch the coronation together and the Royal Coronation Concert from Windsor Castle.

Families, friends and neighbours sharing food and drink. Lots of organised street parties.

Face painting, games, souvenirs, singing, dancing. How wonderful would it be if we could harness this sense of pride and love for our county.

Not just for one day, but throughout the year.

See you again in two weeks! Until then – Stay Safe and Be Kind.
