WORK to repair a collapsed embankment near a road in Exmoor has been completed.

The B3224 at Roundwaters between Exford and Wheddon Cross has reopened today (Friday, April 19), after Somerset Council closed it in January to allow its contractor Walters carry out repair works.

Damage was originally caused by a falling tree around two years ago, which led to a lane closure and temporary traffic lights.

To rebuild the embankment, the team had to use a 30-tonne piling plant and 50-tonne crane, as well as around 150 tonnes of material which had to be imported on site.

Councillor Richard Wilkins, Somerset Council’s lead member for Transport and Digital said: “It’s great news that this vital and busy route is reopening earlier than scheduled – we are well aware of the challenge for local residents and businesses with such a lengthy closure, and I’d like to personally thank everyone for their support and patience.

“I’d also like to thank our contractor Walters for their fantastic efforts in getting this important work done early.”
