Children from a Penarth school have climbed Pen y Fan.

On May 12, students from Fairfield Primary School completed their second annual trek up the highest peak in the Bannau Brycheiniog.

Despite the adverse weather conditions of fog and rain back in April 2023, 50 participants, both young and old, successfully completed the challenge.

This year, the group of children, ranging in age from four to 11, parents, members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and two dogs, were met with favourable weather, complete with sunshine and impressive views.

After reaching the summit, a celebratory picnic ensued.

Each child received a medal for participating in the trek and managed to raise funds for the school.

Fairfield's head teacher, Mrs Lewis, expressed pride and gratitude towards those who took part in the sponsored walk, resulting in £805 raised for the school.

The donations were collected via a fundraising page, which remains open for additional contributions towards the procurement of sports and outdoor play equipment.

Details about next year's Pen y Fan challenge have already begun to circulate, with excitement brewing amongst the Fairfield Primary School community.
