Pirates Ametuers 1stXV 33-13 Wiveliscombe 1stXV

WIVELISCOMBE made their longest trip of the season to play Pirates Ametuers in the Western Counties League at the Mennaye Ground in Penzance.

The freezing conditions affecting most of the country had left Cornwall and the pitch was in good condition.

Pirates had beaten Wiveliscombe by 22pts 42pts at Wivey in September so the West somerset team had to play well to avoid a heavy defeat.

Though the final result of this game shows Pirates winning by twenty points there wasn't an awful lot to choose between the two teams but two yellow cards shown to Wiveliscombe made a huge difference for good parts of the game.

Fly half Dan Quick converted two first half penalties for Wivey with prop Will Ellis crossing for a try late in the game.

Pirates remain in third position in the league while Wiveliscombe are mid table in sixth place.

Wiveliscombes seconds home game against Bridgwater 3rds was called off joining most of the other games in the area lost through frozen pitches.

Wiveliscombes next games will be the Boxing Day encounters for both first and second teams which are always looked forward to by supporters of both clubs.

These games are so well supported even though Wellington have had the upper hand for the past dozen seasons. The majority of games have been closely contested.

The last game played on Boxing day was 2019 which ended in a 14pts  14pts draw.
