Penryn 26-41 Wiveliscombe

WIVELISCOMBE traveled to Cornwall for this Western Counties West fixture expecting a tough afternoon against a team who have improved considerably over the last month.

Penryn had beaten Wiveliscombe earlier in the season 20pts 27pts and were looking for the double. 

Wiveliscombe had a good start to the game scoring a try through Sam Gibbs, Playing in the centre and showing his wingers pace to give Wivey a perfect start. Full back George Rowe converted. 0pts 7pts.

Penryn settled after this set back and scored two tries in the next quarter of an hour, No8 Billy Jordan was first to cross the visitors try line finishing off a good build up from his team, Fullback Logan Cairns converted. 7pts 7pts. 

Penryn went in front after another free flowing move resulted in a try for winger Ayden Earnshaw to give Penryn the lead. 12pts 7pts.

Centre Richard Wike replied with a lovely solo try for Wivey receiving the ball from a Penryn clearance kick deep in his own half, He showed a great dummy which enabled him to  slice through the home defence and sprint fifty yards to score. 12pts 12pts. HT 

The third quarter belonged to Wiveliscombe raising thier game to score two more tries through thier forwards. Captain and No8 Frank Norman finished off good work from his fellow forwards to touch down, Rowe kicked his second conversion.  12pts. 19pts .Will Ellis crossed for Wiveys fourth bonus point try after catching a speculative kick from 

Penryn and running fourty yards to score. Rowe converted to give Wiveliscombe a 12pts 26pts. 

Penryn were determined not to give Wivey the upper hand and scored thier third try through Logan Cairns which he also converted. 19pts 26pts.

Wivey were then given a great boost when scrum half Richard Baker scored two great individual tries. The first came from a poor lineout by Penryn with the loose  ball being pounced on by Baker who sprinted fifty yards down the blind side touchline to score. 19pts 31pts.

His second try was a similar situation where he gathered the ball to again sprint down the same touchline and cross for Wiveliscombes sixth try, Both conversions were missed. 19pts 36pts.

After scoring the first try of the game winger Sam Gibbs completed Wiveys scoring crossing for thier final score. 41pts 19pts.

Penryn to thier credit kept going for the full eighty minutes and were rewarded with thier bonus point try scored by hooker Chris Hellier which was converted by James Salisbury.

Wiveliscombes ninth win of the season lifts them to sixth position in the Western Counties League. FT.  26pts. 41pts.
